Two places your data lives

This website (Better Phonics) is the controller for your household account: email, hashed password, and whether Level 1 is unlocked.

Polar Software, Inc. is the controller for payment, billing address, tax, invoices, and purchase records. Read Polar’s Privacy Policy . We do not see your full card number.

What this site stores

Account email and a hashed password, so you can sign in.

A Polar customer id linked to that account, so we can see whether Level 1 is paid.

A sign-in session cookie, so you stay signed in on this device. That cookie is strictly necessary for the service. There is no advertising cookie and no analytics tracker on v1.

Print pages may show your account email in the footer watermark so a leaked PDF can be tied to the household that bought it.

What stays on the device

The personal page (name, age, birthday) and sticker progress are stored in this browser’s local storage. They are not sent to our server.

Clearing site data on the device deletes that progress. We cannot restore it.

Children

Purchase and sign-in are for an adult. We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13, and Polar does not knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13.

Do not type a child’s full name, school, or contact details into the account email. The optional name on the personal page is for the child to see on the page and stays in the browser.

To create and keep your household login.

To check Polar for a paid Level 1 order and unlock the book.

To watermark print pages with the buyer email.

To reply if you email us about the book.

Sharing

We share your account email with Polar so Polar can create the customer record, take payment, and send the order email.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use advertising networks.

We may disclose data if required by law or to prevent fraud or licence abuse.

Retention and your rights

We keep the account while it exists. Polar keeps payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires — see Polar’s policy.

You may ask to access or delete the household account on this site. Deleting it signs you out and removes our copy of the email and password hash. Polar still holds the order record. Paid access ends if the Polar order is refunded or the account is deleted.

For cards, invoices, payment refunds, and access to your order, email support@polar.sh or use the Polar customer portal from the email Polar sent after you paid.

If you are in the UK, EEA, or a similar regime, you may also have rights to correct data, restrict processing, or complain to a data-protection authority. Polar’s policy explains Polar’s process for payment data.

International transfers

Polar is a United States company. Payment data is processed under Polar’s privacy terms, including transfers described there. This site may be hosted outside your country. We use it only to run the account and unlock the book.
